  Extended Warranty issue: I purchased a hot water heater (HWH) in 2006 with a Home Depot "Lifetime Warranty" (at a higher price) which on their invoice actually stated "Lifetime in home replacement including delivery, parts and labor". Well, it finally died this year and it was time to use the warranty. Then the horror began. First was trying to get in contact with anyone who would claim responsibility. The store directed me to the website CS. Website CS said I would need to talk to the Home warranty insurance company. They said I would need to work with their contractor in Denver. The contractor said this was going to be a nightmare and I would only be compensated partially. (They were right on both counts).
  
  Long story short, Home Depot was extremely unprepared to handle that old a warranty and no one wanted to take responsibility for it. Their mantra was "we don't sell that anymore". I eventually was given an in store credit for the HWH only and had to pay the plumber to accompany me to pick up and deliver it as well as the install. This was a horrible customer service experience and I would advise all to be very wary of ANY long term extended warranties from the Home Depot.
  I'm giving 2 stars only because they did finally give me credit for the original HWH price. I am lodging a BBB complaint against Home Depot for the remaining charges to install the unit. Will advise you of that outcome.
  
  Outcome: After filing a complaint with the BBB (those folks are awsome) I was contacted by upper management in CS. After providing them with a copy of the warranty they did offer to give me a HD gift card for the money I was out in the installation. Maybe they deserve a 1/2 star for that but I was still out 8 - 16 hours of my time to get them to honor their word. Again, be very skeptical of extended warranties from HD.
